The purpose of this experiment is to obtain qualitative microstructure information and semi-quantitative hardness readings to determine by comparison the identity of some unknown metal specimens.

The theory of cold work / strain-hardening was discussed during the lecture portion and experienced through Exercise IV of this 2-part lab.
