Consider the successes or failures described in the film, and aspects of guanxi and mianzi as discussed in the textbook. For this discussion, make sure you have viewed two films, “Crocodile in the Yangtze” and “China or Bust!” Also, make sure you have read from Chapter X and XI in the textbook, Chinese Business Etiquette written by Scott Seligman.
Then answer the following questions:
What would you expect as an employee in a Chinese company? What would be different from working in a U.S. company?
Indicate under what circumstances you would recommend that your company set up a joint venture with a Chinese company? Why might you advise against such a joint venture?
Why would an American (or Western) company want to do business in China? What would be some of the difficulties, and what would be some of the advantages?
Describe how decisions are made in Chinese companies and why the decision-making process may be different from American companies.
