Question Description
As a student learning to appreciate the fine arts, you are required to go to one musical performance during this semester.Such performances include orchestra or band concerts, choral performances, recitals, chamber music concerts, musical theater, or operas.You will also be required to write a 2-page essay, double spaced in 12-point font about the performance you just heard. This essay should not just be a list of the questions below, but written in prose!You should be able to use musical terms to describe the performance.I’m not expecting a measure by measure account of what happened, and there is no wrong or right answer for this essay.It is completely opinionated, but your opinion must be justified. Just be honest.
You will either attend a live concert or a live streamed concert. Write about the concert including the following elements:
Who were the performers? And, what kind of performance was this? (Orchestra, band, chorus, opera, etc.)
What pieces were performed? And how did they fit with each other in programming?
What composers did you hear? Did you recognize any of them from class discussions?
Where was the performance? Was the location appropriate for the performance?
Was this a student, professional or community ensemble?
What instruments were performed? Were there any soloists?
What did you like about the overall performance? What didn’t you like? Why?
Were there any distractions in the hall? Did this take away from the performance?
Did the performers do a good job? Why or why not?
Were there any catchy tunes in the performance?
Did you understand what went on?
How does this music relate to your favorite type/genre of music?
