• What factors should be considered in the assignment of institutional housing for persons entering the correctional setting with known pre-existent mental health problems?
• What factors should be considered in the (re)assignment of institutional housing for persons newly diagnosed with mental health problems while incarcerated?
• What is the appropriate institutional response to disciplinary infractions committed by persons with mental disorders?
• What factors should be considered in the recruitment and training of correctional staff whose primary responsibility is correctional security?
2.   Law enforcement personnel are typically the initial responders to a call for assistance involving a person with a mental disorder. Often some action is required relative to the mental health status of an identified person. Drawing upon the resources presented in this course, as well as a minimum of two additional peer-reviewed sources, identify, and outline best practices for the nature, extent, and design of general mental health response training for law enforcement recruits during academy training.
3.   Most offenders who are sentenced to serve a term of imprisonment will return to the community at some future date. Diverse inmate groups present with differential needs in terms of re-entry planning. Drawing upon the resources presented in this course, as well as a minimum of two additional peer-reviewed sources, identify, and outline best practices for the employment of trauma-informed care in re-entry planning for female offenders with confirmed trauma histories.
