Research Strategies
Academic and business research goals are two different concepts which apparently have similar intentions. Whereas academic research refers to studies based on a literature review of a given part of an investigation, business research approaches are based on actual management issues as they occur in the real world. In other words, academic research approaches have a primary goal of achieving a certain academic objective while business research techniques employ methods that are aimed at solving a particular business problem or explaining a given phenomenon related to consumer behavior. Furthermore, the general public forms the primary audience for academic research while business research methods are aimed at solving an issue related to the top management.
As a researcher, I would prefer the qualitative approach. This technique is quite convenient, especially where a research question requires in-depth study. Furthermore, it offers an effective way of addressing the phenomenon and explaining the study using the presented qualitative data (Ritchie, Jane, et al). In addition, it offers a detailed explanation of the complex phenomenon under study and is not bound by the sample size of the population. This approach is also effective because it will offer me several alternatives of data collection including observation and interviews which are quite reliable.
To determine the area of focus for the research, I will observe the environment around me for a gap that exists. In other words, I will be seeking to find answers to a given phenomenon that has not been explored or to explain a certain complex issue that exists within the normal or business environment. After analyzing the general surrounding, I will narrow down to the specific issue that exists in this environment and deploys strategies to find information about the occurrence. The gathered data will be used for analysis which will help in drafting a conclusion about the phenomenon.
