1. Goto Edgar: www.sec.govand locate the most recent proxy statements (form DEF 14A) for at least fivecompanies (preferable in the same industry). 2. Collect12 quarters of financial information (sales, gross profit, net income, and EPSetc.) and input the data into Excel. Use Tableau to read the Excel data andcreate graphs and figures to help you analyze the companies financialperformance.
3. Readthe executive compensation sections of the proxy statements that you collected.Write a report that incorporates in the following:
What metrics do companies use whendesigning their CEO compensation contracts?
How many of those metrics areaccounting-based (from financial statements), return-based (from stock price),or neither accounting- nor return-based?
Which metrics are unique to this industry?
For each metric, discuss the reasons it isincluded in the contracts.
Compare the compensation contracts, such asthe percentage of fixed and contingent components of the contracts, across yoursample firms.
Use your analysis on companies backgroundand financial performance, discuss the reasons for the variations in contractsacross your sample firms.
