The article I found in my research discusses the improvement of trauma response in the triaging of elderly patients on anticoagulants with suspected head injuries (Fuchsen et al., 2021). This journal supports my experience with geriatric patients in the emergency department and also my desire to be involved in a trauma team as a provider. I found this journal at the MEDLINE database through the Walden Library. At the start of my research, it was challenging to ensure that the sources found were peer-reviewed scholarly journals. In exploring the database, I found a filter to only search for peer-reviewed journals, which made it significantly more straightforward. In fact, in a number of library databases, when you limit your results to only scholarly journals, you also limit your results to only peer-reviewed journals (2021a). I also had difficulty picking a specific article from such a broad trauma topic. As stated in the Walden University Library instructional, I suggest having an end in sight to select an appropriate topic and have enough relevant keywords to find the right journal for your research (2021b). This database would be helpful to my peers and colleagues because it provides full text for the article instead of just a small abstract. I would recommend this database in future research for the MSN program and professional development.

Proper handwashing and hand hygiene are a particular interest of mine.  The act of handwashing is one of the most effective tools to prevent infections.  I started my search using the Walden Library.  I am familiar with databases to access scholarly journal articles and publications.  Peer-reviewed publications have met a quality standard established by experts in the same field.  According to Adeli, Kelly, and Sadeghieh (2014), it encourages authors to meet the accepted standards of their discipline and control the dissemination of research data.  I utilized the CINAHL database for my search.  The article chosen was Patients Hand Washing and Reducing Hospital-Acquired Infection from Critical Care Nurse journal.  The study was done to determine if increased access to hand hygiene products and patient education could improve patients hand hygiene and reduce the transmission of HAIs (Ahrens, Freeman, Goodrich, Haverstick, James, Kullar, 2017).  I had some difficulties in my search due to the number of articles that were returned.  I directed myself to the Walden University Library and found a quick answer for finding scholarly, peer-reviewed journal articles.  You can limit your search in many of the Librarys research databases to academic, peer-reviewed journals (Walden University, n.d.).  At that point, I refined my search with peer-reviewed scholarly journals, full text, and geographic subset: USA.  The filters narrowed the results to fifty-two, and I was able to locate the article.
