This week we are talking about emotions at work. This is a very appropriate topic since we are all dealing with a lot of stress around the Covid pandemic.
The goal of this project is to understand how negative emotions affect people at work and explore various coping strategies. To do this, interview 3 people on negative emotions at work. Some examples of questions you can ask them are:
- What causes you stress and/or anger at work?
- How do these negative emotions affect you physically, mentally, behaviorally?
- How do you cope with stress/anger while you are at work?
- How do you think your age, culture, gender, job title/position… affects how you handle stress/anger at work?
The interviews can be done through phone calls, emails, or Zoom.
- Write it up:
- Introduction paragraph on emotions at work – introduce what you are talking about in the paper.
- Provide interviewees’ basic information (gender, age, ethnicity/race, job position, company worked at, time worked at the company), and summarize the their responses (do not reiterate word for word what they said). Use quotes from what the people said when necessary. Each person should be discussed in their own paragraph.
- Analyze, compare, and contrast your interviewees’ responses. This section is important - really think about why people responded differently from each other (was it due to their role at work, their gender, their age, their educational level…).
- Relate your interviewees’ experiences with information from the eText, and the article "Understanding The Impact of Emotions On You And Others At Work" by Justin OOI T. Y, (https://leaderonomics.com/personal/impact-of-emotions (Links to an external site.)) and what was discussed in class.
- Show the coping mechanisms or any other pertinent information using a chart or graph (pie chart, line graph, bar chart, scatter plot…). This needs to be a chart/graph that you create (I put a link in the modules to a site that shows you how to do this in MS Word).
- Closing paragraph reflecting on what you learned
You will be graded on the following:
