The Task
Create a visual display of information that analyzes your contemporary novel selection and evaluates its literary merit. You and your group members will work together to create this display and then the rest of your classmates will participate in a gallery walk as they walk around the room and examine your work.
The Guidelines
Your display should include the following information:
3 sentence plot overview
Author information: avoid just facts–consider what aspects of the author’s life may have influenced the work
Central conflict: identify and analyze how it develops and how it is resolved
Main character(s) analysis
Setting(s) and Historical Context discussion: How does it influence the story?
Theme(s): How do they develop? What is significant?
Writing style analysis: Anything unique or unusual?
Literary Merit evaluation/potential for ”Classic” label
Overall recommendation/group consensus of the “Classic” label?
You MUST include AT LEAST 5 quotes from the novel in support of your ideas. These quotes can be part of any of the above topics/areas of discussion.
The Display: Be CREATIVE!
Your project will not be presented in front of the class, but will instead be part of a gallery walk which will allow everyone to see your work. You can choose to display this information however you would like: large poster paper, computer program (Prezi, PowerPoint, etc), or some other visual display of the information. Think outside of the box–or the book. . . .bring in props (symbols) and don’t limit yourself to just one medium for presenting/sharing your work. You will use a table grouping to display your work and then everyone will be walking around and viewing all the group displays.
You will be graded on your attention to detail regarding all of the bulleted items above, and on your creativity in the display of your information.
