20 Jan Explain each element of the PDCA learning cycle. How is it applied to the project?
PLease write a response to the students statement below:
The Plan-Do-Check-Act is a cycle that has continuous improvement integrated at its core. The planning phase of the process is anticipating how you intend on accomplishing what needs to be done. The project’s budget, schedule, and requirements are items to be discussed and published during this phase. A quality check concerning if the plan addresses the core problem as well as the goals and if the action steps best fit the budget, schedule, and requirements should be accomplished during this phase. Do is the next stage of the cycle that involves putting the plan into reality. This is where the action steps discussed in the planning stage are being accomplished. During this phase, anomalies can occur that were not intended, and managers should know how to mitigate these issues. Everyone should also have a complete understanding of this responsibility in the project before taking action. The check phase is where the integrated process improvement in the cycle begins to take action. This is where managers answer if their plan is being executed as well as intended. Perhaps more issues occurred during the previous stage at an excessive expense to the budget, schedule, or resources and now have to be addressed. The final step to the cycle is the active phase. The efforts of this phase depend on how well the project was planned in the planning stage and what discoveries and reports were made in the check phase. If the plan is going as intended with minor issues, then the decision in the act phase may be to continue to implement the original plan. On the other hand, if the original plan is playing out horribly and has cost time, excessive effort, and funds, then the decision in the act phase may be to develop a better plan and pay more attention to the check and act phase during the next cycle because of the previous failures. In a project, there are expected outcomes and deliverables that are supposed to result from the completed project. Whether or not these goals will or will not be met can begin to be seen in the check phase of the PDCA cycle. Project managers and other stakeholders do not have to wait until it is too late and the project is completed to respond with improvements. If managers wait until it is too late to respond, time, effort, and resources will be wasted when improvement modifications could have been implemented sooner, which could have deemed the final completed project a success instead of a failure.
