It might look a lot but that is not the case this is due to the screenshots but in the actual book, it is less. I'm really in a difficult situation right now and I apologize if screenshot quality is not at best. Please let me know if you can do this and at how much

Rubric Reflection.docx

#1: Positivism & Indigenous Methods Reflection

The reflection paper must provide a comparative assessment of ‘positivism' and ‘Indigenous methodology’. Specifically, students must read:

Tuhiwai Smith, Linda. 2021. Chapter 1 in Decolonizing Methodologies: Research and Indigenous PeoplesThird Edition. NY: Palgrave McMillan

Kovach, Margaret. 2021. Chapter 1 in Indigenous methodologies: characteristics, conversations, and contexts. Toronto: University of Toronto Press.

Students will write a 500-word response in the form of a reflection paper (note, a reflection paper is analytical and is not intended to be an opportunity to write freely as one does in a diary).

The reflection paper is meant to achieve two goals. First, it is comparative, so students must show a strong grasp of the core principles of the ‘positivist’ model and ‘Indigenous methodology’ and how they are similar, yet different. Second, students are expected to think how researchers should conduct their work in light of both the positivist model and Indigenous methodology. For this goal, it might be helpful to think about your career and then assess the implications for research arising from these two models (i.e., if your goal is to become a senior policy analyst, what will you take with you when you conduct research on a public policy problem? If you are conducting research related to potable water on First Nations reserves, how would you approach this given the readings?).

***** So essentially explain what each is ( main principles/points) what they have in terms of similarities and compare them with each other.

Confusion between the two approaches; little or no discussion of similarities / differences

or inaccurate claims

Analysis

Strong assessment of the implications for research

arising from both models.

Outlines clear implications for conducting research,

especially research involving Indigenous Peoples (i.e.

Research must consider

Kovach’s point relating to….).

Shows student has read all required materials.

Fair assessment of the implications for research

arising from both models.

The implications may not be fully unpacked or only lists

implications for one model.

Shows student has read some of the required materials.

Weak assessment of the implications for

research arising from both models. Shows

limited understanding of

both approaches. Fails to demonstrate that

student has read the required materials.
