Final Project: Strategic Analysis Guidelines and Rubric

Overview

The final project for this course is the creation of a Strategic Analysis of a non-professional (i.e. collegiate or recreational) sport organization. You will examine the different aspects of management and operations of your selected sport organization and provide detailed recommendations for the future, informing athletic administrators in the field. This analysis is similar to an extensive case study analysis. Make sure to include topics discussed throughout this course.

Main Elements You will only have access to your Group Discussions, which will be designated by your team number. You and your teammates will be posting your work in the group discussion, according to the Deliverable Milestones contained in this document. Be sure to review this table carefully. You have a number of assignments to be completed including four project milestone due dates. Prepare written answers/summaries to all relevant questions as they relate to your Strategic Analysis. Your contributions to this project will be graded by your instructor and your teammates; you and your teammates will be completing a Group Evaluation Form which will contribute to your grade. Your team will also have access to a group discussion topic (also designated by your team number). This will allow your team to exchange files and discuss issues in a group environment This Strategic Analysis should become part of your professional portfolio. You may use it in future interviews to demonstrate the quality of work of which you are capable. The project is divided into four milestones, which will be submitted at various points throughout the course to scaffold learning and ensure quality final submissions. These milestones will be submitted in Modules Four, Six, Eight, and Ten. Within your group discussions, you are encouraged to use a running Word Document, as the Final Project will be submitted as a Word Document in Module Ten.

Format Milestone One In 4-5 Group Discussion Final Project: Milestone One, you will submit Milestone One. This includes a detailed SWOT analysis and the following:

Introduction: o Mission statement/philosophy/goals of organization o Products and services offered o History of the organization including past successes and failures o Current conditions/situation o Goals, objectives, and strategies of the organization; include any competition or benchmark organizations as well

Milestone Two In 6-4 Group Discussion Final Project: Milestone Two, you will submit Milestone Two. This involves analyzing the current operations, management, and marketing of the organization. This should include all operations and management, all competitors, and the segment of the industry to which this organization belongs. Milestone Three In 8-4 Group Discussion: Final Project: Milestone Three, you will submit Milestone Three. This should be a draft of recommendations for the future of this organization. Based on your analysis, what should this organization do to be successful in the future? Include an analysis of the industry, competition and organization, as well as detailed future recommendations for operations and management. Milestone Four In 10-2 Final Project: Submit Final Document, you will submit your Final Project: Strategic Analysis as a MS Word document. Make sure to submit your Final Document as a Microsoft Word document. Everyone will need to submit the Word Document individually.
