Clinical Issue of Interest: postoperative pain management

Pain management post-surgery is one of the most important rehabilitation phases that impact patient outcomes.

It helps patients to recover to their normal function and prevents severe physiologic and psychological effects linked with acute, uncontrolled pain.

Post-operative pain is experienced by majority of  patients who undergo surgical procedures.

Most of the techniques of post operative pain management involve only pharmacological (medication) treatment which has not been as effective as it should be.

This has prompted the research on the use of both pharmacological and non-pharmacological treatments for better results.

PICO(T) Question

My PICO(T) focused on the use of both pharmacological and non-pharmacological pain management methods to treat surgical patients.

(P) Population: Can pain management among surgical patients

(I) Intervention: that employ both pharmacological and non-pharmacological interventions

(C) Comparison: compared to approaches using only medication

(O) Outcome: produce improved perception of pain control

(T) Time: Over one year
