 Question:

How is Islam related to the other Abrahamic faiths such as Judaism and Christianity? How were Christianity and Judaism treated by Muslims in early Islamic society? Why do you think they fostered toleration while giving Muslims a greater sense of community?

Answer:

Hey everyone,

The Islamic religion was unearthed with the struggles from the Prophet Muhammed believing the tribes and its noblemen were not upholding their positions in society. Muhammed set forth with his wife, Khadija, who became the first to convert to Islam, and established the Islamic religion. Islamic religion relates to Judaism and Christianity in several ways. They believed the morals and responsibilities of the communities and individuals should be to worship God. As discussed in Britannica.com, Islam, major world religion promulgated by the Prophet Muhammad in Arabia in the 7th century CE. The Arabic term islām, literally “surrender,” illuminates the fundamental religious idea of Islam—that the believer (called a Muslim, from the active particle of islām) accepts surrender to the will of Allah (in Arabic, Allāh: God). With the Islamic religion, Muslims believed in God, also known as Allah, in Arabic, just as Jewish and Christians faiths believed in God. Christians and Jews were accepted by the early Islamic society as their beliefs somewhat aligned with Muslims. Unlike the pagans, who were forced to choose between the Islamic faith or death, the Christians and Jewish communities were allowed to withhold their beliefs and labeled as the "People of the Book".
