Last week you learned about the history of leadership theories which began with the trait, behavioral, contingency, and path-goal theories. This week, you will learn about contemporary leadership styles, which include charismatic, transformational, ethical, and servant leadership. Contemporary leadership theories lean toward a conceptualization of leadership that is values-based, complex, and directed at goal achievement related to the common good (Komives & Dugan, 2010). The behavior characteristics associated with each leadership style are set forth below. It is important to note that a leader may exhibit one or more of these styles simultaneously. The charismatic leadership style espouses that charismatic leaders can affect change in followers. By exerting influential power, charismatic leaders can persuade followers to take proactive, sustainable action to accomplish goals and objectives. A charismatic leader embodies the beliefs, promises, and possibilities of the organization, provides a sense of optimism for the probability of success, and is willing to take personal risks to turn the vision into reality. Charismatic leaders are skilled in communicating a shared vision effectively with followers. Winston Churchill, John F. Kennedy, and Nelson Mandela are examples of charismatic leaders. The transformational leader believes in their follower’s success. Transformational leaders connect with followers′ ambitions and can persuade others to accomplish their aspirations towards self-satisfaction (Flynn, 2019). Transformational leadership aims to provide followers with the ability to develop and create new ways of solving problems (Kim & Park, 2019). This type of leadership encourages the follower to become leaders themselves. Transformational leaders engage with others to create a connection that elevates motivation in both the leader and follower. A transformational leader is concerned with others′ emotions, values, ethics, long-term goals, and assessing followers′ abilities. Examples of transformational leaders include Jeff Bezos, Steve Jobs, Henry Ford, and Bill Gates. Ethical leadership is characterized by the practice of justice demonstrated in a leader that exemplifies a just and fair leadership approach. Ethical leaders focus on ethics and a clear priority of their plan by communicating moral and value-based conduct. In modeling ethical behavior, leaders establish a clear expectation of mutual respect for others, demonstrate honesty and values-centered decision-making. Mahatma Gandhi, Rosa Parks, and Warren Buffet are considered ethical leaders. This week, you learned about contemporary leadership styles and approaches. For this week′s assignment, prepare a fictitious interview with a leader. Compose an introduction, and then develop 10 open-ended interview questions for each leadership style (charismatic, transformational, ethical, and servant) based on this week′s resources. Next, write a 1 to 2-page reflection identifying your leadership style from any leadership styles discussed thus far. Explain whether your style is a combination approach and provide specific examples to demonstrate the styles. Length: The Interview Questionnaire should be 2-3 pages. References: Include a minimum of 3 scholarly resources The completed assignment should address all of the assignment requirements, exhibit evidence of concept knowledge, and demonstrate thoughtful consideration of the content presented in the course. The writing should integrate scholarly resources, reflect academic expectations and current APA standards, and adhere to the Northcentral University′s Academic Integrity Policy.
