What this Module is About

Introduction from the Module Leader

This module is designed to introduce the student to a range of operations and logistics management techniques. The module provides a comprehensive approach to managing operational resources and associated supply chain management principles. In short, it enables students to develop critical thinking and decision making for operational and logistical aspects of an enterprise and furthermore, students will develop an appreciation of strategies for planning and co-ordination in a supply chain.

Module Aims

To enable students to develop academic competency in strategic operational and logistical management concepts, within the context of overall supply chain of an organisation.

Module Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this module you should be able to:

1. Appraise how an enterprise’s approach to its operations and resources are managed.

2. Critically evaluate how a business operation impacts performance and competitive position and be able to appraise suitable methodologies for improvement of processes

3. Evaluate operational logistics and construct a distribution plan for their products and services and resultant risk profile.

Module Learning Activities

The module will use various activities in support of learning in addition to lectures, videos of new technologies used and activities to analyse operations where students are working or might work in the future to support their knowledge of new methods in supply chain management. The module website will be loaded with lots of additional information which students can use in support of their learning. Students are advised to go through the various articles and links on Mybeckett to update themselves with issues of importance in Supply chain management and theories that enable us to understand and analyse them.

Developed skills and attributes in this module include gaining the disciplinary expertise and technical knowledge such as effective management of operations and logistics processes as well as gaining the capability to critically analyse factors such as development of operations and logistics strategies, planning and controlling, inventory management, etc.
