BIOL209: Midterm Assessment Overview: Course Goal 1 of BIOL 209 states that students will be able to explain the basics of genetics and inheritance. There are three learning objectives that follow (see syllabus) and this course goal should be accomplished in the first two modules. To assess whether we have accomplished this goal, you will demonstrate it by discussing the genetics and inheritance of a trait of your choosing. This is an individual, original project. You can be as creative as you wish. Consider creating a visual, infographic, video, story or some other creative means.

Instructions:  Choose a trait of interest. There are some ideas on Blackboard to get your start. There is a limit of one person per trait.

o Traits are on a first come, first serve basis.

 Post your trait on the discussion board for approval. o Failure to get prior approval will result in a -25% deduction.

 Create the most unique, creative project that you can. o Design your project to inform the general population about the trait.

 Upload the design to Blackboard and attach a formatted Works Cited page.

Helpful Information:  There are many websites and videos that contain information on how to create and design projects. Feel free to use them

for ideas and don’t forget about Adobe.

 Be sure to discuss the gene that governs the trait, how the gene is inherited, alleles of the gene/variations of the trait, anything that may alter the trait, its prevalence in different populations, SNPs of the gene, etc. Include more information than not.

 Be creative. Imagine you are showing it to a cousin or friend who has no idea about the topic. How can you make them interested in the topic and inform them of its importance in a small amount of time?
