Write a discussion board post that identifies which resource you’re writing about, and then explain how it echoes, emphasizes, or disputes at least three ideas from anywhere in Modu

  1.  write a discussion board post that identifies which resource you're writing about, and then explain how it echoes, emphasizes, or disputes at least three ideas from anywhere in Module 2. Your post should be 300+ words in length, and should compare at least three ideas from the resource to ideas from Module 2. You can discuss how the resource agrees with, supports, adds to, disagrees with, disputes, or introduces something new.
  2. After posting your response, respond thoughtfully to at least two of your classmates to complete this assignment.

Choose at least two of the discussion board entries made by other students in the class and reply to their statement with 200+ words in length. Share your thoughts with them about their ideas. When replying, think of questions like:

  • Why do you agree or disagree with their perspective?
  • What do you think is important about what they’ve offered to the discussion board for this topic?
  • What did they say that resonated with you or your experience and why?
  • Keep in mind that a simple response of "I agree" or "I disagree" without a thorough explanation is insufficient and may result in no credit given for those entries.
  • Instead, respond as you would if you were having an academic conversation with a fellow classmate in real-time (this would mean politely, of course.) Failure to follow the rule for polite discourse may also result in a zero on your own discussion board assignment.

The Writing Process

The writing process is something that no two people do the same way. There is no "right way" or "wrong way" to write. It can be a very messy and fluid process, and the following is only a representation of commonly used steps. Remember you can come to the Writing Center for assistance at any stage in this process.

Steps of the Writing Process

Timeline Description automatically generated

Step 1: Prewriting

Think and Decide

· Make sure you understand your assignment. See  Research Papers  or  Essays

· Decide on a topic to write about. See   Prewriting Strategies  and  Narrow your Topic

· Consider who will read your work. See  Audience and Voice

· Brainstorm ideas about the subject and how those ideas can be organized. Make an outline. See  Outlines

Step 2: Research (if needed)

Search

· List places where you can find information.

· Do your research. See the many  KU Libraries  resources and  helpful guides

· Evaluate your sources. See  Evaluating Sources  and  Primary vs. Secondary Sources

· Make an outline to help organize your research. See  Outlines

Step 3: Drafting

Write

· Write sentences and paragraphs even if they are not perfect.

· Create a thesis statement with your main idea. See  Thesis Statements

· Put the information you researched into your essay accurately without plagiarizing. Remember to include both in-text citations and a bibliographic page. See  Incorporating References  and  Paraphrase and Summary

· Read what you have written and judge if it says what you mean. Write some more.

· Read it again.

· Write some more.

· Read it again.

· Write until you have said everything you want to say about the topic.

Step 4: Revising

Make it Better

· Read what you have written again. See  Revising Content  and  Revising Organization

· Rearrange words, sentences, or paragraphs into a clear and logical order.

· Take out or add parts.

· Do more research if you think you should.

As I read through "The Writing Process" article by KU Writing Center, I found myself impressed by its straightforward and informative approach. The article's clear explanation of each step in the writing process made it easy for me to follow along and understand. The use of numbered steps and bolded main ideas, with additional details provided in bullet points, helped  visualize the process and made it comprehensible.

I definitely preferred reading the articles over watching the videos, such as the "Writing Process" and "Building an Essay." Unlike the article the videos were lengthy compared to the KU article it provided  more information in a  shorter period of time, making it a more beneficial resource. However, it was interesting to note that the article did not include brainstorming as a step in the writing process, despite its importance. While I agree that brainstorming is a crucial step, it was unfortunate that the KU article did not address it as part of their writing process.

While  comparing the article "The Writing Process" by KU and the Module Two Lesson on "The Writing Process," I have seen a notable difference in the amount of information provided on rough drafts. While the module briefly touched upon the definition of a rough draft, the KU article delved deeper into the topic by outlining the essential steps involved in producing a well-written rough draft. The article provided more comprehensive insights on the necessary components of a rough draft, which can aid writers in producing a polished final product. This discrepancy highlights the importance of seeking out comprehensive resources when engaged in the writing process.

As I progressed through Module Two, I found myself gaining valuable insights and knowledge on the writing process. While I appreciated the abundance of information provided, I also recognized the need to streamline my learning and prioritize certain resources. In this regard, I found "The Writing Process" article by KU to be a concise and easily digestible overview of the writing process. However, I acknowledge that the article may not have provided the same level of detail as some of the lessons in Module Two. As such, I opt to combine the resources, utilizing select components of Module Two in conjunction with the KU article. This approach allows me to obtain a more comprehensive understanding of the writing process and apply that knowledge to my own work effectively.
