Blood travels from the legs to the heart and then to the lungs while a person is supine. Due to heart failure, there is increased pulmonary pressure, and the seat cannot adequately pump blood from the lungs, resulting in feeling out of breath when lying down.
The third heart sound is the first indicator of left heart failure.
