A work culture starts with the founder or executives developing an initial mission and a vision that directs and guides an organization. Mikela is the new president of a 3-year-old company with lackluster sales of a new car based on the old Volkswagen’s “bug” car. It is very economical ($10,000), electric, compact, safe, and has no extras except for air-conditioning. The windows roll down, and it has a basic radio and windshield wipers. However, the last company president was let go by the board of directors as he failed to provide direction and motivation, which led to lackluster sales.
Instructions: Now, as the new president, you want to develop a mission statement and vision statement with your board of directors. Your classmates will act as your board of directors, and together as a team, you will come up with a marketing-oriented mission statement and a vision statement. (See the unit reading area terminology and the learning activity.) Each “board member” must contribute substantially to this process; just agreeing will not be sufficient. Remember to allow everyone to share ideas. As the new president, you must make a final post before the unit ends, stating the final mission and vision statements after receiving input from your classmates.
