This is my problem statement:
The problem is that female entrepreneurs face funding and financial obstacles, resulting in a racial disparity in rates of business growth and sustainability. Despite the rise of decentralized, collaborative, and participatory forms of power as described by Heimans and Timms (2018) in their concept of the New Power Compass, many female entrepreneurs are unable to effectively harness these dynamics due to systemic gender biases and lack of support infrastructure (Ahl & Marlow, 2012; Brush, de Bruin, & Welter, 2009). This gap highlights the need for a focused study on how female entrepreneurs can be empowered through the strategic use of new power mechanisms to overcome these challenges and enhance their business success.

The opening paragraph/statement should bring the reader into the topic, while the background of the study/problem should frame the problem and identify the gaps and/or deficiencies from prior research. It is important to present why the study should be pursued and for whom the study is important.
Note: If you do not clearly define your problem this week, it will become increasingly difficult for you to complete additional deliverables throughout the class given the way that the problem ties into so many facets of your dissertation.

This section should be 3-4 pages long. You may use previous coursework when developing your dissertation phase deliverables.
