13 May GOV 608 Public Infor Systems Management Final Paper
Cybersecurity Policy Paper. Create a corporate memo/policy paper advocating for the best practices in cybersecurity plan for your boss/company/organization. If you are unemployed or are a full-time student, you may use a former employer or find a company to research, large or small. You should start with a SWOT (Strengths-Weaknesses-Opportunities-Threats) analysis of the company/organization and apply the cybersecurity management principles and ethics that you have learned. Assess your employer’s cybersecurity situation. What policies are in place? How can they be improved? Be sure to keep ethical and Biblical practices in mind as you formulate policies. Please note that you can advocate for Biblical policies and ethics without resorting to religious/Biblical arguments. It is recognized that while most organizations are secular in nature, you are who you are, and part of what you bring to the workplace is your worldview and, if you are a Christian, your Christian faith. The end product of this project should be a template for you, as an IS/cybersecurity manager, to advocate within the corporate/agency environment for policies and procedures that will protect the organization and enhance your professional career.
This assignment is due on Wednesday of Week 8.
Requirements
Each paper will be unique to the student authoring it, so it will be up to the student to determine how it looks and is presented. The instructor will be looking for the following things in the finished product:
Professionalism.
A clear demonstration that you have learned and understand the issues presented in the class.
Clear Communication.
Strong but Respectful Advocacy.
Situational Awareness (clear knowledge of both the risks and rewards of the policies you are advocating for compared to the current policies).
Engaging for the target audience/person, etc.
Be careful about making it too long or too short because while your professor will read it, the target audience/person will need to WANT to read it, and your paper will be evaluated based on this.
Required Reading:
Chapters 1-3. — Cybersecurity Ethics: An Introduction by Mary Manjikian
FOR THIS WEEK you are to submit a STATUS REPORT, letting me know where you are with your
final paper. This can be up to 1000 words but does not need to be. You need to tell me what
company/agency you are doing your paper on and any problems of issues you may be encountering.
This is an informal mechanism. You are checking in with me regarding your work. Please also
indicate if you would like to schedule a phone call to discuss your assignment. This is due by February
17th and should be submitted via Canvas.
