Imagine you and your spouse have outgrown your current home. Your spouse wants to move to a larger home, but you’d like to add on to your existing home because you love your neighborhood. Using the negotiation process in Chapter 14, explain how you would approach negotiating with your spouse about this topic.
Research organizational structures of widely known companies (for example, Nike, Amazon, Johnson & Johnson, etc.). Find one thing that exemplifies an ideal organizational structure. Find one organization that employs each of the organizational designs in Chapter 15. For each, include an explanation as to why you think the organization employs that structure.
Read Ethical Dilemma: Culture of Deceit in Chapter 16 of the textbook and answer the corresponding questions:
What are the negative effects of a culture that encourages dishonesty and corruption on an organization’s reputation and its employees?
Why might some organizations push employees to behave in a dishonest or corrupt manner? Are there personal benefits to corruption that organizational culture can counteract?
What actions can you take as a new employee if you are pressured to violate your own ethical standards at work? How might midlevel employees’ responses to this question differ from those of more senior managers?
