06 Nov Jordan Alternate Perspectives Around Ethical Challenges in Research
This course has covered a number of federal research guidelines, federal, state, and local laws, institutional policies, and ethical codes that address a range of ethical issues and theories. However, there are still a number of topics involving ethical issues in health science that there is not a general consensus on. Alternate views are often driven by an individual’s personal, social, and professional experience, and there may not be a “right” answer involving these issues. Learning how to determine your own moral reasoning behind some of these views as well as engage in respectful discussions involving opposing views is an important aspect of understanding differing ethical perspectives.
You will choose a topic related to an ethical issue discussed in this course that may be controversial or have opposing viewpoints. You will introduce the topic, choose a side of the argument, and discuss the ethical reasoning behind this viewpoint. You should then discuss how scripture can provide support to the viewpoint you have chosen to side with.
Below is a list of potential topics, but you are welcome to choose a topic that is not on this list as long as it clearly relates to course materials.
Topic Ideas:
Use of Animals in Research
Authorship and Intellectual Property
Discrimination in Research
Use of AI in Research
