This week, you will focus on a different type of writing: a short review. This will allow you to review the feedback you receive from your instructor on your Unit 6 Submission, so you can use it to revise the Unit 6 Submission in preparation of submitting the finalized version for Unit 10.
This type of writing shows that you can closely observe and form an opinion in writing based on your experiences and observations.
Think about your favorite book or movie, or an episode of your favorite TV show. What makes this book, movie, or show so good? Imagine you have been asked to write a review of this book, movie, or TV show episode for an online publication. The publication’s editor has asked you to summarize a brief scene from the book, movie, or TV show and explain how this scene illustrates what makes it work so well.

Then, complete the following:
- Select a scene from the book, movie, or TV show.
- Write a 3-paragraph review of the scene you selected.
- In paragraph 1, provide a summary of the scene.
- In paragraph 2, use analysis to closely examine the scene and explore how and why it is so compelling.
- Make a claim about what makes this scene great (e.g., Is it the descriptive language? The skillful acting? The realistic dialogue? The exquisite set design? Or something else?).
- In paragraph 3, include a response section in which you defend your love of the book, show, or movie, explaining how the element you selected to analyze illustrates the appeal of the work for you.
Make sure your submission does the following:
- Incorporates a quotation or paraphrase in the summary.
- NOTE: Quote must be at least 1 solid sentence. Short quotes, such as “I believe!” or “That’s great!” or “I love you!” or “That is certainly a possibility!” will count for little or no credit.

42 is the film I've chosen. The Brooklyn Dodgers take the field against the Cincinnati Reds, as the crowd boos them. The fans are booing because the Brooklyn Dodgers have a black player called Jackie Robinson on their roster. People didn't feel Jackie Robinson should be playing professional baseball alongside white baseball players since it was during the "separate but equal" era. Pee Wee, a teammate of Jackie Robinson's, was playing at home with his family watching and wrapped his arm around Jackie Robinson while facing the audience to identify himself. It demonstrated to the audience that Jackie was still his teammate, regardless of his skin color, and that he would not condemn him based on his skin color. He offers a famous remark about them all wearing 42, which refers to their entire squad, because it was Jackie Robinson's uniform, and no one could tell them apart, implying that he doesn't only regard him as a black guy, but as a teammate.
On June 21, 1947, the Brooklyn Dodgers faced the Cincinnati Reds in a game that may go down in African American sports history as one of the most memorable. What makes this image so amazing is that black and white people were separated at the time of the event, and the idea of them playing together was unthinkable. The fact that one of Jackie Robinson's white baseball players was able to address Jackie Robinson on the field across from his hometown and show the entire crowd of Cincinnati in front of his family that he was not embarrassed of Jackie Robinson was a big eye opener for not only the crowd but the players on both teams and says, “Maybe Tomorrow We’ll All Wear 42.” (Brian Helgeland, 2013).
Being an African American in today's culture, I still witness racism and have dealt with it as a child. Since I moved to America in 2006, I've been a baseball fan, and Jackie Robinson has always been one of my role inspirations. I can claim that I have faced prejudice on the baseball field, and this scenario is very moving to me since my team stood by me even when they didn't have to, much as Pee Wee Robinson stood by Jackie Robinson when he didn't have to. This scenario just reminds me that we as individuals may evolve and learn to accept change since things will always change, and you must occasionally let go of what you were taught in order to accept something new.
