Perception of Role of Nurse Practitioners
Nurse practitioners play a role in providing care to patients after undergoing full
training and obtaining a practitioner license. They work with other team members in the
healthcare setting, including the physicians, lab technicians, social workers and
physiotherapists in providing patient care. I also know that they carry out their duties depending
on their area of specialization and can work in various healthcare settings such as rehabilitation
centres, hospitals, and long-term care settings.
I have met various nurse practitioners in the healthcare setting, especially the outpatient
setting, when seeking care. They have good communication and listening skills and build a
good rapport with patients during care provision. I was satisfied with how they provided care
with compassion and handled all the patient's problems with confidence. I like the nursing
profession mainly because it involves helping families, individuals and communities achieve
better health outcomes, save lives and improve their quality of life.I also like how the nursing
profession has adverse opportunities, and a NP can work in various settings and contribute to
projects and research in the area of specialization.
I want to become a nurse practitioner because of the flexible schedule and the
opportunity to advance in my area of choice. Saving people’s lives is another motivation that
makes me want to become a nurse practitioner. Through this, I will be able to do my best to
ensure patient satisfaction of better health outcomes. I think it is vital for the NP profession to
ensure that the working conditions in the various healthcare settings where NP practice is good.
