How would you go about starting a counseling group?

First and foremost, I need to find the counseling group purpose. For instance, loss is a very common process that everyone goes through. Some people need help processing it. That is where the counseling group would come along. I would find those individuals that need the support of others that have been through the process of loss to come together each week and talk about their week and how they can help each other. Others might be doing well while others are not. Everyone has a bad week or good week and sometimes sharing those moments with others helps each other out. Afterwards, I would build relationships with everyone. This will allow me as the counselor to engage with each person and find issues they have involving lose. Next, I would do a problem assessment with everyone. Third, we would come up with goals. Fourth, I would have a counseling intervention, which is a person-centered approach. Finally, I would have a goal for everyone to be able to have a termination date in mind. The whole purpose of the counseling group is to help everyone in the group learn to deal with the problem all by themselves. After all, lose happens more than once. That person needs to learn how to handle it all by themself.
