The organization I work in is a medical device/service company. We provide medical devices and operate them in operating rooms and surgical settings. The way we communicate is through text messages, emails, our service application and our HRIS system that helps with scheduling and asset management.
I am involved in the operations level of the organiation where I am directly on the “front line” of the business. I talk with hospital administrations and surgeons on a daily basis and am responsible for serviding that hospital and surgeon. We are fully autonomous in our jobs, meaning we get a case and are expected to grab the equipment, get there, do the service and file the proper paperwork for our charges and close out the case on the application. We rarely work with other employees in the area.
From a communication perspective, we have a very open line of communication upo to the regional manager. Beyond that, when it gets up to the corporate level, we comunicate through all professional channels, via the company phone line and/or email. We must go through our direct supervisor level to reach those upper echelons of leadership, but usually we can comunicater with those higher levels pretty easily as long as we use the proper channels. This is very similar to my military comunication structure.
Jolaoso (2024) states “Ineffective communication often occurs when managers talk to the wrong employees or share information in the wrong workplace setting. So, make sure the communication purpose directs you to relevant recipients. Also, choose the most appropriate communication method out of the different communication channels for the employee and situation. ”
I would welcome change because not every way we communicate is perfect, I think at a lower level we could actuallybe a lot more professional. I don’t mind making friends, but when it verges on too comfortable, that is when professional attitude begin to fail and the job we are set to do begins to not be to standard
