Background
This week’s required reading and videos are designed to introduce you to how to read and take notes on scholarly research articles that you identify that can be used as you examine the literature in your area of interest. You are also being introduced to and take advantage of the sources at the Academic Success Center.
Instructions
This assignment consists of two parts. In the first, you are required to identify 3 peer-reviewed journal articles published within the past 5 years on each of two possible topic areas and complete the outline provided. If any of these were initially located in week 1 and are still considered relevant for your intended dissertation topic, it is acceptable to use these.
In this assignment, you are to identify the purpose, research method (quantitative vs. qualitative), the theoretical or conceptual framework (if provided), the results, conclusions, limitations, and suggestions for future research. The identified articles need to be ones in which empirical research is conducted, either quantitative or qualitative. You want to avoid using meta-analysis, which is the analysis of multiple research studies.
Remember these articles must be consistent with your degree program and specialization. If the latter is finance, you are likely to find articles in journals such as the Journal of Finance, ABA Banking Journal, The Review of Financial Studies, etc. If your specialization was in Organizational Leadership, you might locate studies in the Journal of Leadership & Organizational Studies, Journal of Management, Academy of Management, Journal of Applied Psychology, Human Relations, etc.
Complete the outline provided for each article. As you work on your literature review, remember that there are no opinions. Rather, all work stems from the cited sources.
In the assignment’s second part, you must registrar for a session at the ASC. You can choose for one of three sessions:
• Analyzing Research
• Synthesizing Research
• Analyze Literature
When you sign up for these, the faculty member must be notified.
If you cannot attend any of these sessions, you are welcome to choose another. If so, you need to submit a short paper (one page or less) explaining your chosen session’s rationale.
Length: This assignment must be 6-13 pages (excluding the title and reference page).
References: Include a minimum of 6 peer reviewed journal articles, three for each topic
