Instructions
Write a paper identifying 2-3 gaps in the scholarly literature related to the general subject you would like to focus on in your dissertation. This assignment helps you identify specific topics you could explore in your dissertation. As a reminder, the topic of your dissertation needs to clearly relate to your degree program (and specialization, if you have one).
Note: In your previous courses, such as BUS-7100, BUS-7380, and BUS-7320, if the topic you chose to write on in those courses aligns with your program (and specialization, if applicable), and you believe you would like to write your dissertation on that topic, you may use the work you have completed in those courses and build on it for this assignment. Therefore, while you may use what you have already written in your previous courses as a starting point, and continue to develop that, you can think of this assignment as a way to have a new, fresh focus on that general subject. Therefore, you can begin by reviewing your BUS-7100 course and locating the literature review you completed for your Signature Assignment. This may help you as you write your paper this week.
In your assignment, write an overview of 2-3 gaps you’ve noticed in the scholarly literature (related to the general subject you’d like to focus on in your dissertation). Perhaps you have already identified a specific topic for your dissertation. If so, you may write about that specific topic (using your previous work). But also write about at least one other gap/topic on which you could focus your dissertation study. Be sure your assignment covers, and is grounded in, the scholarly literature on the topics.
For this week’s assignment, complete the following:
• Identify 2-3 possible gaps/topics related to your program (and specialization, if applicable) you could focus on in your dissertation study.
• Describe the gaps/topics (to establish the main ideas and context).
• Summarize some of the literature about the gaps/topics.
• Explain the topics (e.g., What are the current issues? Why are they important?)
• State clearly in one sentence what your degree program is (and specialization, if you have one).
• Briefly explain how the topics align with your degree program (and specialization, if applicable).
• Ensure ethics in your writing by correctly and accurately citing your work and ensuring academic integrity in your writing.
Tips for Success
• Use APA format and writing style.
• Include appropriate, mostly recent (published within the last 5 years) scholarly sources.
• Support your assignment with at least eight scholarly resources. Not sure if your source is scholarly? Check out this page on the NU Library website. Other appropriate scholarly resources, including older articles, may also be included.
