Imagine that you are a Baby Development Consultant. New parents have submitted questions about things they have noticed their babies doing. Using what you learned this week, your job is to help them understand what may be happening developmentally.

Parent Question 1: “Why does my baby put EVERYTHING in their mouth?”
My 7-month-old puts everything in her mouth—toys, blankets, her hands, and basically anything she can grab. I keep taking things away because I don’t understand why she does this. Is she just teething, or is she actually learning something?
Parent Question 2: “Does my newborn actually know who I am?”
My baby is only a few weeks old. Sometimes it seems like she recognizes my voice, but I don’t know if I am imagining it. Can newborn babies actually recognize familiar voices?
Parent Question 3: “Why isn’t my baby walking yet?”
My daughter is 13 months old and isn’t walking independently yet. My friend’s baby started walking at 10 months, and now I’m worried that my daughter is behind.

Parent Question 5: “Can my baby remember anything?”
My 8-month-old gets very excited when she sees a particular toy that we haven’t played with for several days. I thought babies didn’t really have memories yet. Can infants actually remember things?
Parent Question 6: “Why does my baby stare at certain things?”
My 3-month-old will stare at some faces, patterns, and objects much longer than others. Sometimes she even seems to lose interest after seeing the same thing repeatedly. Why?
· Parent Question 7: “My baby seems hungry all the time. Is that normal?”
My baby is 4 months old, and it feels like she is always hungry. She has also grown so much since she was born! Why do infants need so much nutrition during the first year?
· Parent Question 8: “When should my baby start eating solid foods?”
My baby is 6 months old, and we are beginning to introduce solid foods. Why can’t babies just eat the same foods as adults? How do infants’ physical development and nutritional needs affect what and how they eat?
· Parent Question 9: “Why won’t my baby sleep through the night?”
My 5-month-old still wakes up several times during the night. My friend told me that her baby already sleeps through the night. Should I be worried that something is wrong?
