In 1592, de Vaca published an account of his journey. This work can be read today in Adolph Francis Bandalier’s 1905 edition, “The Journey of Alvar Nuñez Cabeza de Vaca and His Companions from Florida to the Pacific 1528-1536. Translated from His Own Narrative by Fanny Bandelier.” (New York: A.S. Barnes & Company, 1905). The 194 page narrative gives the first details of America and Native Americans. Notice the many dangers that are shown in red.
