Chapter 22 reviews how statistics are used to describe variables. there are 2 types of statistics: Descriptive and inferential. Descriptive statistics usually focus on the characteristics of the sample. Some of these characteristics include demographics, measurement of knowledge level of a pre test or post test, measurement of improved outcomes based on teaching. So in a nutshell quantitive research will have some descriptive statistics about the subjects you are studying. Inferential statistics focus on the RELATIONSHIP of the variables on the subjects that are being studied. When deciding on a statistical test ask yourself this question: Am I attempting to determine if there is a relationship between my independent and dependent variable? Is there a difference between my groups based on my interventions or am I trying to predict that based on my variable this is what will happen? Most of you will be either establishing a relationship or determine a difference. Chapters 23, 24, and 25 are important chapters to focus on.
