Three scientists Sophie Marbach, Hiroaki Yoshida, Lydéric Bocquet, with that goal in mind decided to think outside the box. When it comes to the way osmotic processes are studied, each stand is studied individually, like you would a banana and an orange. However, these three decided that it might be in the best interest of scientific progression to look at them on a grander scale; as fruit as opposed to individual categories of fruit. Armed with this new way of thinking, they forged forward and were successful in their endeavors. What they found was a whole new aspect of osmosis that was not previously available to them.
