Respond to Kayla post- only needs to be 1-2 paragraphs: My name is Kayla and I live in Massachusetts. I completed my ADN course in December of 2018 and passed my NCLEX that following January. Since then I have been working as an RN at a sub acute unit, which is attached to a long term care facility. The sub acute unit gave me great experience because I got to care for such a wide variety of patients. I was bale to see elderly patient’s s/p fall at home to hospice patients to those who were non verbal and G/J tubes and running IVs. I have just been hired at Mass Eye and Ear on their inpatient unit and will see various patients there as well, even though they will all be EENT patients. I immediately went back to school to obtain my BSN because it has been my dream job to work in a Boston hospital as a pediatric nurse and both of those require a BSN. This is also the reason I have doubled up my course load and will finish the BSN course within a year . How have you achieved these outcomes? I have realized how important evidenced based practice is. Any time a nurse or adminstration implements something new on the unit I was suddenly excited to learn about the studies and evidence that lead to this intervention. I have found myself researching things on my own through SNHU’s Shapiro library to figure out why my job is implementing certain changes. I have also found myself seeing the change in my nursing skills. I began this program in April of 2019 after beginning my nursing career in February 2019. I have been able to grow and “transform” so much through out this year due to the hands on experience and the educational knowledge I have been able to gain. In what specific ways has this education changed you both professionally and personally? This education has taught me a great deal of knowledge. Through the research needed in every week of every class I have been exposed to statistics in nursing that I never would have looked up on my own. I have found a greater love for the ethics of nursing and even the law and legality of nursing. I have been able to keep the knowledge of ethics and law in my nursing practice every day. I think about the ethical decisions behind every action I take for my patients now and when I document I find that I keep the laws and legal issues I learned of in mind. What specific program outcome challenged you the most, and how has your thinking changed in this area? This program has challenged me to become better at time management. It may sound like an odd thing I learned from this program, but it is something I desperately needed. Trying to balance every day life and work, along with family and furthering my degree I had to sit down and schedule my time for everything. At first, I struggled with it greatly. Now, I understand how much I truly need to put aside for my work. I have been able to carry this skill over ot my every day life and even into my work life when I mapping out my day based on the patients I will be caring for.
